The Light Between

The Light Between brings together eleven artists whose practices explore alternative narratives around identity, collective memory, cultural dislocation, threatened ecologies, and urban mythology. Taking the moon as a recurring symbol, the exhibition considers the space between light and shadow as a place of contradiction, vulnerability, resistance, and possibility.

Bringing together artists from South Africa, Nigeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Iran, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom, the exhibition creates a dialogue across different geographies and lived experiences. Through painting, abstraction, surrealism, scent, colour, and light, The Light Between reflects on the ways personal and collective histories continue to shape how we understand belonging, memory, and place.

The exhibition takes its title from Leonard Cohen’s The Future: “There is a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” Within this space of fracture, the artists consider forms of quiet resistance—moments where uncertainty, fear, memory, and hope can coexist.

Farnaz Gholami is one of eleven participating artists, alongside Mohammad AlFaraj, Nada Baraka, Intissar Belaid, Meriem Bouderbala, Mia Chaplin, Huda Lutfi, Hanna Noor Mahomed, Sepideh Mehraban, Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu, and Bindi Vora.
