Statement
Farnaz Gholami explores place as a shifting condition shaped by social, political and cultural forces, as well as memory, emotion and imagination. Born in Dublin and raised in Tehran, Gholami’s experience of living across different countries informs her paintings, which move between imagined spaces, remembered places and fragments of lived experience.
Through ambiguous forms, interrupted environments and layered surfaces, she explores how images and places carry traces of personal and collective histories. Her paintings reflect the fractured ways in which we encounter the world — through memory, distance, images and stories — questioning how belonging is formed, lost and reimagined.
Within these disrupted spaces, a sense of possibility emerges. Through fluid brushwork, shifting forms and luminous colour, Gholami creates paintings where fragility and resilience coexist, exploring the relationship between memory, identity and home.
