Nuweland Gallery | ZsONAMACO Art Fair | Mexico | 2024
Presented by Nuweland Gallery at Zona Maco, Farnaz Gholami’s paintings explore the unstable and deeply personal idea of home. Drawing on experiences of geographical and cultural dislocation, Gholami brings together fragments of architecture, urban landscapes and domestic interiors to construct spaces that exist somewhere between memory and imagination. Her hybrid compositions resist a fixed sense of place, instead creating an atmosphere of suspended in-betweenness—familiar yet strangely distant, intimate yet unsettled. Through layered surfaces, fragmented forms and a shifting relationship between figuration and abstraction, Gholami considers how places are remembered, imagined and reconstructed, and how a sense of belonging might persist when home is no longer a singular geographical location.
